Pamela P. Bishop

Pam Bishop is an Investment Operations Officer and Senior Director at Heck Capital Advisors. She is based in Heck Capital’s Rhinelander office. Pam began her investment career in 1988 working for a Wall Street firm for 19 years performing several different functions, ranging from client service, to operations, to asset gathering to analytics. 

Pam earned her Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) awarded by the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute (CFA). The CIPM program consists of two levels of exams and develops skills in effective investment performance and risk evaluation, manager selection, and investment reports grounded in accountability. Pam is also a Registered Investment Advisor Representative . 

Pam’s primary responsibilities include processing all monthly and quarterly billing, overseeing and preparing the third-party audit of our investment strategies and preparing all daily, monthly and quarterly client reviews and reports. 

Pam resides in Rhinelander, WI with her husband, Rick. She enjoys spending time with her three children, five grandchildren and extended family, boating, golfing, travelling and cheering on Wisconsin sports teams.

What do you enjoy most about working at Heck Capital Advisors?
It is a pleasure working for a company that puts its clients’ needs first. The client is always the first priority at Heck Capital Advisors.

What is the most rewarding part of your position?
The  most rewarding part of my position is making sure the client receives an accurate and state-of-the-art review of their portfolios. 

Benjamin C. Opsal CFA

Benjamin C. Opsal

Ben Opsal is an Associate Director in Trading and Investment Management. He is based in Heck Capital’s Rhinelander office. Ben graduated Summa Cum Laude from Minnesota State University - Mankato in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance with an emphasis in Investment Analysis and minors in Business Administration and Accounting and has earned advanced investment designations. He was also chosen to participate in the Minnesota State University Student Investment Fund. Ben began his investment career in 2014 and earned his Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter in 2018. A Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter is a designation given to those who have completed the CFA® Program and completed acceptable work experience requirements. Ben also passed his Series 65, Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination in 2015.

Ben’s primary responsibilities include rebalancing and trading client accounts to accommodate new assets, portfolio withdrawals, and changes to investment strategy. In addition, Ben contributes to marketing and communication initiatives and assists in other analytical functions for Heck Capital. 

Ben has served on multiple boards and is involved in various community initiatives including currently serving on the Board of Directors for The Headwaters Foundation, and the President of The Headwaters Inc. Board of Directors, which provides individualized services for people with disabilities, designed to maximize each person's daily living and vocational skills to be integrated into the community as fully as is possible. Ben won the Top 10 Under 40 award from the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce for 2019.

Ben resides in Rhinelander, WI and enjoys spending time with friends and family, playing golf, and engaging in the many other activities found in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Being involved in making decisions that have a real, positive financial impact for our clients.

What do you enjoy most about the research process?
I enjoy the dynamic nature of markets, gauging how those changes will impact clients’ investments and determining a portfolio strategy to best capitalize on the opportunities present in the market today.

Matthew Schulz CFA

Due-Diligence Analyst
Associate Director

Matthew Schulz is an Associate Director and Due Diligence Analyst at Heck Capital Advisors. As a member of the Investment Operations team Matt leads the asset manager research and due diligence efforts to meet the fiduciary responsibility Heck Capital has to clients and ensure that they are invested in the highest possible quality strategies.

Matt graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with majors in finance and accounting. Matt earned his Master of Business Administration from Washington University, Olin Business School with emphasis in Finance and Strategy. He earned his Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) charter and has passed Series 7, 63, and 65 securities licenses. Prior to joining Heck Capital, Matt started his career at Northwestern Mutual as an financial representative. He later served as a regional director for Wells Fargo Asset Management, before joining a global investment firm where he was the director of consultant relations. Most recently, Matt was the vice president of business development at a hedge fund/global investment firm. Matt’s primary responsibilities include working with institutional and consulting relationships, providing investment advice, conducting investment research and analysis and helping in monitoring and analytics for investment strategies. Matt also serves as a member of Heck Capital’s Investment Committee, Investment Advisory/All-Advisor Committee, and is a member of our Research team. He is active in serving his local community as a volunteer for the Sussex Hamilton School District and for Girl Scouts, and supports the Milwaukee County Zoo and Children’s Wisconsin. Matthew is an active Volunteer for Junior Achievement of Wisconsin.

Matt and his wife reside in Sussex, WI with their two daughters.

Samuel J. Rufer

Samuel J. Rufer

Sam Rufer is a member of our Investment Operations team serving as a Trading and Investment Analyst at the Senior Associate level. He is based in Heck Capital’s Milwaukee office. Sam began his investment career in 2022 after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Catawba College in 2021 earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical Finance and Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. While at Catawba College, Sam was chosen to be a part of the Business & Communication Honors Society, Kappa Mu Epsilon (Mathematics & Computer Science Honors Society), Phi Epsilon (Honorary Scholastic Society) and was a member of the Student Managed Investment Fund. Sam passed his Series 65, Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination in 2022. 

Sam’s primary responsibilities include providing detailed reporting, due diligence and in-depth analytics to the advisors and consultants who serve high net worth individuals, corporations, foundations, endowments, defined contribution and defined benefit plans. Sam also functions as a trader for Heck Capital and is responsible for performing daily, monthly, and yearly transactions for clients as well as block trading, ensuring the uniformity of our investment styles. 

Sam resides in Waukesha, WI and enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, listening to music, and playing basketball. He enjoys helping others whether it be delivering meals to the elderly with his grandmother or helping raise money in his hometown Salvation Army.

I really enjoy the family like atmosphere the firm has in place. We all work together and do our part to ensure we can get the best possible results for our clients. 

What do you enjoy most about the research process?
I enjoy being a part of the research process as it allows for my constant development as an investment professional. I get to look at all the various products in the investment world and analyze each of their particular strengths and weakness as I determine where they fall in each of our respective model accounts and individual client portfolios.
